Rentals

Most most cities in Israel have bicycle paths through the city for cyclists to use.  But, for the city cyclist your first place to consider is the new Tel Aviv/Yafo Tel-O-Fun bicycle rental stations.  These stations will allow you rent a bicycle to ride at your leisure.  The city of Tel Aviv/Yafo has placed and stocked with more than 1000 Green Rental bikes at over 125 locations throughout the city and outlying areas.  This option is great for a visitor coming to Israel with some time to spend riding around Tel Aviv and seeing the city.  Rentals are available 24 hours per day and the stations are practically everywhere.  But first note that You must be at least 18 years old to register and rent a Tel-O-Fun bike. And, of course you must be and a holder of a valid credit card. Best of all, for all of you English speakers coming to Israel, the Tel-O-Fun website is in English and available here: Tel Aviv Tel-O-Fun Bike Rentals Home Page and the Wikipedia Tel-O-Fun Web Page: Wikipedia Tel-O-Fun Here is the link to the Tel-O-Fun Station Locations Web Page: Tel-O-Fun Station Locations The Station Locations map that is displayed on the Tel-O-Fun Web Page is interactive.  If you click on one of the locations, it pops-up a balloon window with the exact address of the Tel-O-Fun locations, the number of bikes currently available at that station, the amount of parking posts in total (so you’ll know if you have a post to return a bicycle and a linkable list of six of the closest stations to the that location. They also have a PDF downloadable map from this link: Tel-O-Fun PDF Map But you should pay attention to some of the details as it looks like not all locations are listed and the rates listed on this map are not the current higher rates either.  But it does point out the over seventy kilometers of bike lanes in and around the city! Here is the link to Tel-O-Fun Rates page: Tel-O-Fun Rates Page There is a daily access fee, which varies between weekdays and the Sabbath and holidays of 17.00 ILS to 23.00 ILS.  With this fee you have thirty minutes of free riding time.  After the first thirty minutes there are additional fees to continue riding the rental bicycle.  If you are stopping for a lunch break or a cup of coffee, we obviously suggest that you return the rental bike to one of the stations and then re-rent it or a different bike when you are ready to ride again.  Here’s the link to the Tel-O-Fun ‘How It Works’ page: ‘How It Works’ Page They even offer this tip straight off the page above: “If you return a bike within half an hour (to any rental station), and wait at least ten minutes, you can take another bike for another half hour and you won't be charged any usage fees.”  So, if you are stopping at any time to take a break, return the bike to a rental station, and make your break over ten minutes long! Also note that it is expected that the bikes will be returned before a maximum of 24 hours.  And when you see the penalty fines for returning bikes after this period, you should be highly motivated to return your bicycle on time.  For the price of the first penalty you could easily buy a new bicycle for about the same money. As with everything, there are rules to renting the Tel-O-Fun bicycles, so we strongly suggest that you read and even watch their video on renting the bikes before you do.   Otherwise, enjoy your ride in Tel Aviv!
