Coming2Israel.com - Pharmacies In Israel
Take a walk through any city in Israel and you see a pharmacy on almost every second corner. Finding one is
hardy not ever the problem. The problem will come up, as they usually do, when you need some headache
or fever medicine after hours. There are some pharmacies open late in the bigger cities, but very few, if any,
are open 24 hours. And on holidays and Sabbath, finding an open pharmacy can be a big problem In each
city, there should be an “On-Call” pharmacy that is open on the holiday days and Shabbat. We have tried
searching the web but have not had any luck finding a list in English (or Hebrew, for that matter) to see which
ones are open.
Our advice:
If you can, travel with your own emergency travel kit. Have what you need with you - the brands and types
that you are use to. You should know that even if you find a the brand you normally use, directions of use
are written in Hebrew. Some will have a supplementary instruction set in English inside the package, but you
can’t get to it until you buy it.
If you will be staying in one place for a couple of days, especially over the Sabbath or a holiday, go to a
pharmacy that is close to where you are staying, and ask them if they know which location will be open over
the Sabbath or holiday. They should now. And, most concierge desks should have access to this type of
information, but they may not be available 24 hours in all hotels.
The are two large retail chain Pharmacies in Israel.
Super-Pharm, and,
New-Pharm.
Between these two chains, you should be able to find a drug store in just about every shopping mall in Israel.
They also have some street locations as well. They carry the usual assortment of drug store items, including
baby needs, cosmetics and perfumes as well as some housewares items.
Note that some medicines and drugs that are “over-the-counter” in pharmacies in the US and Canada, need
to ordered through the pharmacist counter here in Israel.
Again, we strongly advise that you come as prepared as you can. Especially if you need prescription
medication, you should at least have a copy of a current prescription with you.
And if you have medical conditions, make sure you have something with you describing what you have,
including any allergies that you may have.
Once we find the source of the list for the pharmacies open on the holidays and Shabbat we will, of course,
post it.
