Coming2Israel.com - Restaurants and Dining In Israel
Come hungry...
We honestly hope that when you come to Israel, that you come here hungry. From fast-food
restaurants and food-courts to world-class fine dining, chef restaurants, and, just about everything in
between, the choices for dining out in Israel are just about endless.
Sushi, steak. lobster and shrimp, from the docks of Jaffa, to the highest floor of an Israeli skyscraper,
your taste buds will sing, your stomach will be full and your mind and heart will simply fall in love
and want more. Thirsty? No problem. You can choose from soft drinks, coffees, cocktails, excellent
local and fine imported wines and beers, spirits and aperitifs to wash it all down. Asian, Fusion,
Mediterranean, Seafood, Chicken and Beef. Kosher, non-kosher, no matter. There is a place and
type of cuisine that should satisfy just about anyones craving for a fine meal or just something to
fuel you up so that you can get on your way. Just don’t forget to leave room for a tasty, and maybe
even, sinful, yummy desert. Although you could get by with salads and a cold glass of water, we
would suggest that Israel is not the place to visit if you have started a new diet. Don’t worry though,
for you disciplined souls, you will be able to eat and enjoy excellent, tasty and creative healthy foods.
We just simply think that the temptation may overcome you. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
Really, just about no bad choices...
One of the other really nice things about visiting Israel, is that along with the vast selection of places
and types of food you can eat and enjoy when you come to Israel for a visit, is that, even if you are
not sure about a certain place, chances are, that even the simplest looking “hole in the wall”, will
usually serve you up a very tasty and decent meal. Of course, some places are, most certainly, better
than others, but most restaurants in Israel are like eating a pizza, in that, hardly is there ever a bad
pizza, just that, some might be better than others. So, as they say, don’t judge the book by the cover.
At least one time during your stay, take a chance, and try a place just because you are there. Most of
the time, you will not be disappointed.
Food-courts? Actually, not too bad...
And by the way, even though food-court food is mostly considered fast-food, and you will find a
number of the larger fast-food chain restaurants in the food-courts, there are also quite a number of
private and local chain restaurants in the food courts that are worth trying out. Many of them offer
selections that may not be gourmet, but, are cooked and prepared fresh every day and could be
considered as good as a home cooked meal.
What’s this? Lunch at a “truck stop”? Mmm..... Yummy! Wait... What???
Also, some Israelis most favorite and best loved restaurants are those attached to or on the same
property as a gas station. Yes, that’s right, what would be considered a truck stop in most other
countries of the world, in Israel, serve up some of the most tasty and revered dishes in Israel.
Usually these places are like BBQ meat places, or as we like to say, “ah-la esh” - literally - on the fire,
but they will also serve some great grilled chicken, steak and seafood, salads with toasty warm pita
and laffa breads. Our mouths are watering as we type this! So, if your local Israeli host ends up
taking you to a gas station for a Saturday lunch, don’t be surprised, but do be ready for a feast that
will tickle your taste buds and satisfy your hunger. Remember what we said about dieting from
above? Now you will understand.
